Merle’s and Colored Coats

Hi, I love breeding beautiful Yorkshire terriers. I talk to many people around the world who have no idea about Exotic Merle’s and/or different colored Yorkshire Terriers.

There are many different colored Yorkies and I will break them down for you so you can better understand. Let’s start with the exotic and fascinating:

Merle is a “recessive gene” Recessive genes can be masked by a dominate gene (M Locus) that can make different colored molted patches on the dogs coat. The Merle can also produce rare eye colors such as Blue eyes, diamond point eyes, speckled blue eyes and/or Green eyes. Merle coats are not limited to just Yorkshire terriers. Colors include, but not limited to: 🐾Blue Merle’s 🐾Blueberry Merle’s 🐾Blackberry Merle’s 🐾Chocoberry Merle’s 🐾Chocolate Merle’s (brown nose) 🐾Lilac Merle’s 🐾Also Tweed Merle’s (Three different colors on back of coat) There is one important rule to consider when owning a Merle yorkie. Merle Yorkies CANNOT be bred together for fear of blindness and/or Deafness. If you are owning one as a pet it is best to get the dog Spayed or neutered.

Parti Yorkies are purebred Yorkshire terriers with the only difference of their coloring. The “standard” color of Traditional Yorkies is blue and tan while the Parti Yorkies will usually have the black, white and tan color. The Chocolate Yorkie (also known as Red Yorkie or Brown Yorkie) is a Yorkshire Terrier which is carrying a double recessive gene for a brown or red coat. AKC recognizes these colors because they come from a recessive gene within the Yorkies. They were born from two standard colored (tan/silver/blue) pure bred Yorkies.

In conclusion, whichever color Yorkie you choose it’s the most loving and lively breed you will ever own. Main Line Yorkies prides itself on their Yorkies outstanding temperament and health. Thank you for visiting Main Line Yorkies. If you have any questions please feel free to message us.
